A powerful 1-hour documentary that unveils the hypocrisy of having democracy in our political systems but not in our economy.
Can We Do It Ourselves calls into question the fact that democracy prevails in so many models of world politics, yet not in economic spheres. By examining the key differences between market, capitalist and democratic economies, the filmmakers are able to present the many perceived benefits of empowering the working class and re-calibrating the scales of corporate influence.
It does not mention specifically SSE but it is clearly grounded on the same political assumptions of the SSE movement.
It mentions the reality of Sweden and the US, but it is totally valid for any other country.
For individuals and groups that want to see the wider picture of where SSE places itself compared to the capitalistic economy, that could use hints on how to dismantle the usual counterarguments, that need a boost of political motivation! The language is simple and concepts are conveyed in a very clear way, no need of previous knowledge of what capitalism or market economy mean. Optimal for an evening screening.
