Sustainable tourism

Integrating the values of Transformative Economies into our daily way of life is essential to make real changes and support local initiatives. In the face of our detractors, we want to show that the paradigm proposed by Transformative Economies is not only desirable but also viable.

That’s why the YITEG partnership gathered a list of places promoting sustainable tourism to visit. According to the World Tourism Organisation, a sustainable tourism place “takes full account of its current and future economic, social and environmental impacts, by meeting the needs of visitors, professionals, the environment and host communities”.

Migrantour Barcelona – a social and solidarity tourism initiative

It is a social and solidarity tourism initiative that shows the intercultural richness of the city through urban routes guided by people with migrant backgrounds (intercultural companions). These routes promote interculturality and combat hate speech and xenophobia by connecting citizens and visitors with the stories and cultures of migrants, discovering the most social and activist side of Barcelona.

Since its implementation in 2022, Migrantour Barcelona has developed two different routes: one in the Raval neighborhood and another in the Poble Sec neighborhood. These routes have been created in a participatory way with the intercultural companions and the social initiatives of the neighborhoods.

All in all, this project seeks to break stereotypes and stigmas by reflecting on themes such as identity, cultural diversity, discrimination, resilience, community, racism or linguistic diversity while building new narratives around migration.
